The future of newspapers. The local press and regional sharing of values. More expensive and less ties

Today we take the events of BCNMediaLab. Having talked about social networking and enterprising journalists are fixed on the future of paper: How will newspapers and magazines in the future? . Participate

editor Louis-Charles Tiar , magazines Barcelonés and Madriz, the consultant and journalist Toni Piqué and José Sanclemente to try to imagine the future and support its new role in the digital environment. ( More info . inscribe here.)

I have been fortunate to participate in the 'warm' debate, with microprobes entitled ' local and regional press: shared values. "

pervivirá I think a strong regional press , generating a multimedia company, multi-channel and multi and a leader in its sphere of influence. I do not think newspapers will exist on paper in the same city and even will be the case of cities and provinces without regional press.

For the price value in the masthead will offer many things as gifts, magazines, supplements, supplies at low prices, collections for coupons, discounts and a thousand other things. Have many pages, with much to read, stories and supplements into the paper and magazines companions (Female, Vehicles, TV, Entertainment, Culture, Heart, Travel, Music). Promotions have to sack. Yes I have

be clear that full of analysis and issues that are universal human stories . The contents fulfill the maxim that will be filled with faces but no tie. I imagine that the regional press paper in the near future will be less spin , yes, but under the arm of people want to be identified and be distinguished by the values we cherish and that for this one, share it.

And finally, I encouraged to develop the microprobes. This is the result. Hope you like and support collejas ;-) Thanks!

The future of newspapers
By Javier F. Barrera, of 1001 Media. Ideal Multimedia Editor of the Journal of Granada. Vocento.

This is my personal opinion, I asked my friend Silvia Cobo, compay in many villains, what I like. It is impossible to divine the future. Not even the second coming is going to come. This is because insurance something happens in the immediate future that changes everything. So the best way to predict the future, says the old journalistic adage, is involved in its construction. Personally and professionally, in that I am and we're all journalists with whom I have the pride of working.

Newspapers know much about what I say. Better than most, even. Those who studied journalism at the University in the eighties we know that the press was already in crisis, that the old trade that you will often heredábamos career newly created regional television and private TVs utopian, that finally see the light 1 January 1990. Someone whispered, beginning to talk about the press offices, non-existent in our country 'in the early eighties. "

Moreover, newspapers, press, kings, queen of the creation of Journalism, his eternal suffering and tried to overcome crisis imitating television. The two models were molaban The Country in the old skin of a bull, which had replaced in our generation to the previously admired Le Monde and The Times, and the newborn USA Today. It was the first U.S. national newspaper. There was previously a newspaper covering the entire U.S. territory.

Then came loaded with new ideas and, above all, a lot of technology. Revolutionized the way weather reports on television and sports. Offered a national perspective to the topics of interest to its citizens. It was multi-edition, with a completely new design. Attention, full-color and computer graphics. Set: Color, Computer Graphics and Design. What then, in the eighties, was the closest thing to salvation that we have never had the pen. I remember at home, down in two MODULIT infographic had always had a couple of highly topical data: snapshots , was entitled ( many more, here ).

Error, the shot wrong was that the press, with the model of USA Today in the hand (to the country finally passed by the color ring) mimicked while fighting on television. When he was born was ... Yes, ladies and gentlemen, was born the Internet.

So it is impossible to predict the future. The press has spent two decades fighting imitating and television while Internet was born, and when spurned the Network came first, the feared ordered later, after embracing her now, spite us.

then what is the future of newspapers? Term. Addition lucid description of Enrique Meneses, I think that local newspapers have values that will allow them to survive. I am convinced, because I've seen, that if administered properly, take care, we will work and innovate at the same time. Persist. Disappeared in the nineties the workshops throughout the eighties did the lead. Now presses and hired away all kinds of services. At the moment, writing is a local / regional platform "in crescendo". Another day, talk of the 'upstairs'. They also have to change. But they disappear if one day our beloved newspaper, may engage in selling anything else. We do not. It's true. On the road we will have changed, yes, but change is intrinsic to the business and the business of journalism.

values that will make the local news / regional survival in the immediate future are:
.- His leadership informed on the issues that affect citizens and also join them. Environments in local / regional news agenda in Spain out of the 'agenda setting' the issues that draw down on the press cover local / regional. Radios, producing all kinds of tvs programs and national newspapers in paper and web ring out without stopping each one cover story local newspaper.
.- The newspaper says the city and how he says it and sells it at home is important for citizens of an area of interest that in a time of information overload and attention economy needs to rely on their Regular life for you summarize the history of the world in a few pages
.- At a time when governments have or tend to have more and better-paid journalists on many occasions that the very newspapers, local press and Regional becomes the only dissenting voice with power, with authority, in this web of vested interests of regional TVs, local stations, local press on a regional basis. In this subecosystems information, a local newspaper / strong regional rises above these conglomerates and the Internet.
.- People love just out in the pages of a newspaper. No bar in a city like Granada and San Sebastian, I assure you that I know well (the cities and bars, of course), not having set in a corner of the walls that time you had an interview with the owner or removed culinary criticism covers / tapas.
.- The journalistic heritage. An editorial is a School of Journalism. Capitalized. The senior editors, the editors, with their bad grapes, his disdain and cynicism of reporters locked inside Event Chairs, sources and contacts, traps, tricks and resources to obtain relevant information. The transmission of such journalistic heritage combined with hiring the best talent in the classroom we will survive.
.- The masthead. The head of a local newspaper / region in Spain means one thing: cre-di-bi-li-tion. I speak of La Voz de Galicia and El Diario de Cádiz, La Vanguardia and Ideal, El Diario Basque and English El Correo de Andalucia and Las Provincias, El Diario de Mallorca and El Norte de Castilla, El Diario Journal of Navarre, Burgos nor El Diario Montanes of Southern Malaga to Heraldo de Aragón. I would not like me nunguno nor truth, nor La Rioja and the Advancement (Salamanca) and the Advanced (Segovia), and the Diario de Burgos or any that is called Grandstand Chronicle. Or my dear friends of Hoy Extremadura and La Voz de Cadiz. Nor do I forget the people who take life, the skin and youth in Granada Hoy newspaper.

And how will they be?
.- I see a strong regional newspaper, the head of a multimedia company, multi-channel and multi, and a leader in its sphere of influence.
.- I see more like Geyper Meeting Games that as few sheets of newsprint.
.- The full analysis see
.- I see the issues that are universal human stories.
.- I see well-written: The Golden Age for Journalism XXI. Building images, describing events, write. New Cambas, Lobos, Ruan, Campmanys, Thresholds, Moranes ...
.- I see with either of pages, with lots to read (people love to read) stories and supplements into the paper and magazines companions (Female, Vehicles, TV, Entertainment, Culture, Heart, Travel, Music).
.- Promotions, a sack. I see them turned into a canal. A local newspaper gave a bottle of Fanta Lemon on Sunday to buy the paper. In 1990 the general director of La Vanguardia told us that every Sunday in Barcelona gave a packet of instant soup. He said: "Given that we are the day of the Catalan bourgeoisie with 80% of hereditary membership we feared the worst. No one protested, no one returned the envelope of soup. "
.- I see an infinite quality.
.- I see full color, multi-edition
.- I see a current core shared by all of them, which explains what happens in the world, not what happened. Beware the shade, because is analysis.
.- filled with faces I see them without ties.
.- I see them reinvented and in communion with the media coverage for the local TV channel itself, the local web.
.- I see enhancing the community created through the network but devirtualize in organizing meetings, parties, meetings, conferences and full of such information.
.- I see them away from sites in the city center, close to the bars, markets, squares and, of course, people.
.- I see with many journalists kick the street and surf the web without hiding their heads ;-)
.- I see a photo quality unimaginable until now.
.- I see beautiful, healthy ecosystem as a reference. Less spin, yes. But under the arm of people want to be identified and be distinguished by the values we cherish and that for this one, share it.

Trainers For Pop Tropica

Data Journalism. Or how we're going back to look for life

This story I'm very, very proud. It is, shall we say, my first approach Data Journalism. I will die of laughter, but true. Because the first thing I did was search the data, have them, compare them with others who describe reality and try to reflect reality as accurately as possible.

The result is the double page full of letters that I have set. Beautifully designed by Jose (Fito) Santos, not have in principle nothing, nothing of anything that might be if anything remotely connected to the data period, Data Visualization.

But this only at first sight. Three things, if you look good, yes there is.

1.-Data and its flip side.
I think, as I said at the beginning of this post, that without the data to reflect more accurately the reality which then needs to be periodísitica and visual, you can not do anything. Or visual, or journalism. And these data, we have achieved. The two sides of the data, of course.

2.-The spirit of learning and research
do not know if we will succeed. If anything we get closer. But since then, I assure you I will try and I'll try to turn this page into something that looks like what should be a report that journalism can be defined as Data or Data Visualization. Then I regret to write and publish these words. But here's the challenge, the will and desire.

3.-links

We've got the people he knows, blogs and labs that talk about these issues and I put ten examples here if you like to try and learn together how the hell does this looks like it has a future in baskets.

PD. During the cutting interviewed a cool chick , founder of Hams 2.0. ------------------------

Poor Granada rich
.- We are the last of Spain, but everyone wants to visit and live with us
.- The cold macroeconomic data can hardly compete with a context of quality of life to achieve desired Granada is a province

"It is true that Santander in Madrid or the salaries are higher and that society is richer, but it is equally true that the story and life are more expensive and do not live as well as in Granada. " He says an expert Extremadura Granada relocated to wealth and poverty of the tanned skin of a bull. Of faith or finding of fact, Granada is the last post as one of the poorest provinces in Spain. The latest Regional Economic Balance, which has released the Foundation of Savings Banks (Func), loops back to this province as the last European convergence, with data covering the period between 2000 and 2009. That is, as the area of land English is the most distance in between the richness of the Europe of the Fifteen as a whole.

José Antonio Morales, a spokesman for the Platform for Eastern Andalusia holds that "the report Funcas this time we have placed nearly thirty points below. This figure is even worse if we consider the latest inclusions Eastern countries poorer than ours in the European Union. It is an untenable reality that 31% of the population is unemployed, "according to the letter to the editor published this month in this newspaper. It adds that "taking into account that the Statute of Autonomy for Andalusia approved by only thirty percent of citizens have per capita funding, the province of Granada still away on points difference from the rest of Spain and Europe due to the extra cost in infrastructure for our relief, while the provinces and flatter populated Lower Andalusia will be increasingly away from our painful reality. "

Despite this view, no leaves his Roal Granada and the province receives visitors and welcome new neighbors every few minutes. The data do not account for these brainy economic reports speak of the Alhambra with more than two million visitors a year where three out of four of the tourists staying overnight in city of a ski resort with good weather attracts a million visitors and generated 200 million euros in just six months. Of data to find data that the foreign population has multiplied eightfold in the last decade and that 2010 has beaten the number of pregnancies in the last five years. At Granada Granada not only like but also, more are born despite the crisis and the data from these reports.

De La Caixa Funcas
And also loves people outside Granada. The province is only one (7.62%) below Madrid (10.30%) in the computation of provinces with more requests for reservations for rural tourism in the month of January this year. Something that sets the trend. And with respect to the capital, is the most resilient the tourism crisis and has better numbers than its main competitors and has established itself as a favorite destination for a weekend pass. It's all part of the paradox, contrast that explains how the land has become rich poor Granada.

Funcas report not only puts us in the background. The latest economic report from La Caixa 2010 returns to get the colors to Granada. If one of the parameters able to measure the development of a province is its industrial implementation, at least it has been for many years, this millennial gives the worst results of the autonomous community of Andalusia with the industrial index lower. Granada

Comparing with the other provinces, appear at number 42 on a total of 52, only eight provinces would be behind her and the two autonomous cities of Ceuta and Melilla. All are population and economic volume much lower than in Granada: Teruel, Huesca, Ávila, Palencia, Segovia, Soria, Zamora and Cuenca. At the other end, Granada has a bar for every 153 inhabitants and in this type of rate only exceeded Malaga, which has 12,989 hotel establishments with a percentage of every 123 local citizens. Are at least symptomatic data.

In this kind of numbers can be found the explanation the survey has now released this February, the Diputación Provincial de Granada. Deputy Juana Maria Rodriguez commented that this survey had one last question to the respondents, personally, to contextualize the cold economic calculations. "They wanted to know the degree of satisfaction in their scope and in their personal lives." The results indicated that "the quality of life at the subjective level is very satisfactory, that is, fairly or very much." Keep in mind that the concept of quality of Granada "as a family, neighborhood, quality of life and health among others."

results and solutions And data
cool to hot stage shows the result. Explains Javier Hernández Andrés, director of the Secretariat of Internationalization of the UGR, which sees students literally stick cakes because they admitted to the University of Granada. "They are the European and international Erasmus coming from other continents," he explains. "The 2009-2010 academic year the program received 1,947 Erasmus students. The program itself from the rest of the world, received about 400. There are more agreements of all kinds which reveals that nearly 3,000 students have been welcomed by the UGR. Between them is 5,000, which in absolute terms is the first university in Spain to foreign population. With the Centre for Modern Languages, the final figure of 10,000 students.

solutions remain. Employers spread to every corner of the province calling for 'learning to sell', for 'knowing how to change the pattern of exploitation of our resources "for" commitment to innovation and new technologies. " One is Manolo Aranda, Zalabí Valley mayor and head of rural property of Uncle Cuevas Tuff. In a pee-country summary of the situation, assumes the lament of the rich and poor Granada explains: "There is no province in Spain that clicking anywhere on the map takes less than an hour so natural and cultural diversity. On average hours are in the snow, in 45 minutes on the beach, caves, deserts, five cultures (gypsies, medieval, Arabic, Roman, Phoenician). " Manolo

Aranda know there twigs for the future and only need to "take an idea and know how to give a little step forward." Gives an example. "Media Europe and Asia buy packages to visit Istanbul and Cappadocia. Istanbul Cappadocia its monumentality and their sites and caves. We can offer the same and better. Cappadocia is 400 kilometers from Istanbul. Guadix 45 minutes from the Alhambra. "

---- Mari Jose Cara
Jamonera the Alpujarra
"I chose live and work in the Alpujarra "
" I chose to live and work in the Alpujarra "ditch Mari Jose Cara, Navarra, Granada birth and heart. His story is simple. "I came because I was looking for work. I found it in 1998 Juviles Hams, a family company. I've always wanted to work in the Alpujarra and Juviles learned the trade of ham. And my partner, too. In 2005 we set up a shop in Granada and sold hams that were not ours. Then we decided to set up our own business. At first it went well and now with the brand hams with more partners Abuxarra and it's going out. " The analysis of data from the reports is as clear as his story. " "Many Sometimes the data they are still just numbers. I do not think we are in the queue, perhaps we lack the entrepreneurial culture, go a step further and discover that we have many resources that have always operated in a manner that may need to be changed. " He concludes: "The numbers, at least in my case, do not reflect the reality of what I feel, what I live, what I know. I chose to live and work in the Alpujarra. "
